Waiting for the text … Plus: What is McCain thinking?

As we wait for the Word to become Flesh I thought I’d go ahead and, just for the fun of it, throw my VP predictions for Obama’s ticket out there. I think any sudden temptation to lunge for Joe Biden in the aftermath of the Georgian conflict will ultimately be put to bed where it belongs–and for very, very good reasons–and Obama will stick with the pick that really can’t mess anything up for him in any way, shape, or form: Evan Bayh. Sure, the Kos Kids may not like him, but they won’t be going anywhere else either. Sure, he’s a tad bland; but that’s the point. With all this celebrity glitter in the air, Obama needs to bring his campaign down to earth. Plus, Obama can tout the Indiana Senator’s ”moderate” side to the bitter, gun-toting, religion-clinging midwestern evangelicals he thinks he can sway.

So Bayh it is then. That is, if he doesn’t pick a woman. If he goes for a feminine touch on the ticket, I think he’ll skip over Hillary for Kathleen Sebelius. Or will he?

As for the Republican ticket …

Look at this picture (taken from Politico) and tell me what you see.

Almost makes you want to go buy some circulation-enhancing socks. But what about when compared to this picture:

Even me, a diehard conservative, is tempted to vote for the guys in the second picture just on the grounds that I’d rather not have the White House turned into a nursing home.

Thus, the first reason why McCain is dead in the water if he picks Lieberman. The second reason is no less important: he’d also immediately squander the support from the Christian Right that he has so carefully cultivated since it was clear he would be the nominee.

Still, Ruffini is OK with it. Morrissey at Hot Air has the rebuttal. Money quote:

The addition of Joe Lieberman will not convince independents that McCain is a maverick; it will convince an already-skeptical GOP base that McCain is a RINO.  Patrick knows better than most how essential enthusiasm is to the GOTV efforts and fundraising.  McCain appears to have finally generated some of that enthusiasm, and picking Lieberman would snuff it out for good.

Can we please put this nightmare scenario to bed already?
