Essentially,
First parents are told they have no rights beyond the public school threshold, now they are told they have no right to opt out of government schooling.
Scary stuff. And it is all illogical. After all,
It is estimated that upwards of 166,000 California children are not in traditional public or private school. And don’t believe that homeschooling = [Chris]tian oppression. There are secular as well as religious homeschools and they all out perform their public school educated peers.
UPDATE 6:30 PM: Stop the presses! Ace says this is all a misunderstanding. The LA Times got it wrong.
I don’t know what to think at this point. If you visit HSLDA’s site, they are jumping all over this ruling, complete with a pop up box asking you to sign a petition against the ruling that makes it “illegal” to home school in CA. They even have the LA Times article posted.
